I build small, useful things and write up the parts that were actually hard. Most of it involves a microcontroller, a bit of Python, and a problem that turned out to be more interesting than it first looked.

What you will find here

Build notes rather than tutorials. I am more interested in the decisions than the steps: why the architecture ended up the way it did, what I got wrong first, and the specific detail that cost me an evening to work out. Posts usually include working code you can lift.

If you are comfortable with the basics and want the detail, these are written for you. If you are looking for a beginner walkthrough, there are better places, and I will usually link to one.

There is no comment box on this site. Instead, each post is announced on the fediverse, and replies to that post appear at the bottom of the article. If you have a Mastodon account, or an account anywhere else in the fediverse, you can reply from there and it shows up here.

That keeps the conversation somewhere you control, on an account you can take with you, and it means this site needs no database, no login and no spam filtering.
