Privacy
What this site collects
Almost nothing. There is no analytics script, no advertising, no tracking pixel and no cookie banner, because there are no cookies to consent to. This page explains the few places where a request does leave your browser, so there are no surprises.
No account, no comment form
You cannot create an account here and there is no comment box, so nothing asks you for your name, your email address or anything else, and there is no database of readers to be in.
Hosting and server logs
This site runs on Cloudflare Workers and is served as static files from Cloudflare's network. That means Cloudflare sits between you and this site: it terminates the HTTPS connection and handles the request, so it processes your IP address, the page you asked for, your browser's user agent and the time you asked. Any web host does this, and Cloudflare's handling of it is covered by theirprivacy policy.
Request logging is switched on for the site, so I can look at individual requests to find broken links and errors. Cloudflare deletes these logs on its own schedule, within seven days at the outside. I do not export them anywhere, do not join them to anything else, and do not use them to work out who is reading. There is no analytics product attached to the site, so there is nothing that follows you between visits or between pages.
Fonts
Three typefaces load from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to fonts.googleapis.com andfonts.gstatic.com. Google receives your IP address as part of that request. If you would rather it did not, a content blocker will stop it and the site falls back to fonts already on your device.
Fediverse comments
Discussion for each post happens on the fediverse, and replies are shown at the bottom of the article. Two things follow from that:
- Reply avatars are loaded from the server that hosts each person's account, so those servers see your IP address. Avatars are requested with no referrer, and only when you scroll near the comments.
- When a page has been published for more than a day, your browser asks the Mastodon instance for any newer replies. That request tells the instance your IP address. It sends no cookies and no identifying information about you.
Replies themselves are public posts on the fediverse. They are not stored here beyond being copied into the page, and deleting a reply on your own instance removes it from this site the next time the page is rebuilt or refreshed.
Your rights
I hold no account for you and no record of you beyond the short-lived request logs described above, which age out within a week and which I cannot tie to a person. There is no profile to export and no account to delete. If you think I hold something about you and want it dealt with, get in touch on the fediverse and I will sort it out.
